Nassim Taleb was nobody before 9/11. He’s just the ordinary person like anyone else who works in Wall Street. He was not the Wall Street millionaire like Victor Niederhoffer. But after 9/11 the name of Nassim Taleb becomes very popular because he is the only person who got rich after World Trade Center was crashed by two aero planes.
He is then famous for his black swan theory. He does his business based on a belief of randomness. 9/11 is a randomness phenomenon. No one ever predicted it and every US citizen believed that their country is the safest country all over the world. Nassim Taleb never knew that World Trade Center would be crashed by two aero planes but he is always cautious in making business decision. For a very long time before 9/11, you can definitely say that he is a businessman which never gains success. He was even almost bankrupt because he never took the challenge of making a big deal, such as selling or buying too many obligations when everyone does it because the economic is in its best condition.
